Located on the campus of Heidelberg University are the three buildings A, B1 and B2 of the "Mathematikon Heidelberg". Building A is the seminar and institute building and houses the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, as well as the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing (IWR) with lecture halls and library. In the B1 and B2 buildings there are offices and laboratory space on the upper floors, while shops, a bank and restaurants have moved into the areas of the ground floor.
All three buildings have a ventilated curtain wall limestone facade: the two outer buildings A and B2 were clad with 4 cm thick facade panels made of Jura Gold, the middle one B1 with a shell limestone façade.
The total area of the facades of the complex of all buildings is approximately 8,000 m2. The height of the stones varies, as does the length of the slabs, resulting in an interesting structure on the walls. In addition, due to various surface finishes (honed C60, honed C120 and sandblasted), appears the same material darker or lighter.
